Newsletter March 2024

A Note from Erin…

Thank you to all who were able to attend our Founder’s Tea! It was a wonderful way celebrate the women, young women, and girls in Women Who Succeed, as well as Women’s History Month! Over the past three years, young women have shared with us how the scholarship dollars provided made it possible for them to finish college, how an internship you provided changed their lives, or how their mentor made a positive impact on their confidence – those are all the purposes of Women Who Succeed. Our vision of growing confidence and leadership skills in young women in Utah is becoming a reality!

This year the team worked very hard to identify girls and young women from all corners of the state to engage in our program. I am especially looking forward to meeting new women who have joined and will be mentoring young women in their local, rural communities. As we enter this new year, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your engagement. I know your plates are all very full, and we are grateful you have carved out time and resources for this important purpose!

Ken Garff Hole In One Challenge
Ladies Only Flight
May 15th at Thanksgiving Point

Due to the success at last year’s tournament, the Ken Garff Hole in One Challenge will continue the Ladies Only Golf Flight during the event. We want to open it up to our Women Who Succeed members who may want to gather a team together or sponsor women from their companies to attend the fun!  Several of you golfed with us last year and what a fun time it was! It’s a fantastic activity for your female leadership development groups as the golf course can be a great alternative to the boardroom.  Get out and celebrate spring and the women in your workplace.

It’s a scramble game with short, larger 8 inch holes and the point of the assignment is always about the students of Utah.

Lunch is included. Lots of extra fun, great prizes, and even a chance to win a 1-year lease of a brand-new car on every hole!

  • Mentoring -you will be paired with 2-3 young ladies from your demographic area with like career interests and soft skill sets.
  • Internship – If you have an internship available with or without pay within your place of business we can help solicit, post and fill that within our group of mentees.
  • Keynote Speaker – We have several events throughout the year where we ask members and mentors to speak about particular topics and if you elect to participate, depending on the event, we may reach out to see if you are willing to speak at the event.
  • Panel – Often we have 4-5 subject experts speak on a panel during an event, workshop, or podcast.  Recently we spoke to the U of U female student athletes about transitioning from a life of an athlete to a career.  Such an inspiring group of women in the community helping these young ladies understand what can be next for them.
  • Podcast – We have a podcast series on You Tube called We Hear Her PODCASTS Check them out.  There is some great content from some amazing women. If you elect to do that, we may ask you to participate.
  • Newsletter – We send out a WWS newsletter each month and may reach out for content from you.
  • Ad-Hoc – this can be a scholarship committee or an event planning committee. If we find that we need volunteers for an event or something comes up where we really need help, these are the people we call first.  Not very often and usually simple tasks, but extremely helpful to know who may be available to call on.
  • Workshop – this may be hosting a workshop at our annual conference or conducting one of the monthly mentor workshops online for the mentees during the cohort.  We normally go by skill set and career to match these with the objectives taught within the workbooks.
  • Sponsorship – If you or your company may be able or interested in sponsoring an event or WWS in general you would select this.
  • In-Kind – If you have access to products or swag items that can be donated for conferences or events you would select this.
  • Refer – If you are willing to refer friends, colleagues, and members of your community to WWS you would select this. We may invite you to bring a friend to a social gathering or send you flyers to post or hand out at book club, etc.

We hope you will continue to take part in the program in whatever way is possible for you.  What you are doing matters and is making a difference in so many ways.
